The great cities of the world are protected by magical barriers, fueled by the magic of the Mnemonic Choir. Outside these barriers, the World Memory warps and bends its influence on everyone and everything caught in its ever-evolving tapestry. Wander outside the city and you may find yourself forgetting who you are, where you’re going, what you believe.
Yet we must venture out of the cities. We must find the broken pieces of our world’s history, before they are lost or stolen. So the Order of the Crystal was formed, to train wanderers for the journey and to outfit them with the gear they need to stay safe.
You are members of this order. Each of you has been trained in a specific area of expertise, and been given a mask carved from crystal to keep your memories intact as you explore the world beyond the barriers.
Carved in Crystal is a game from the world of Mnemonic, a fantasy setting with a buried or forgotten history. This game requires no facilitator or Game Master, nor do players need to roll dice or play cards from a deck; simply read the text aloud and answer the questions as they come up.
Up to six players can play, and a session should be expected to last 1-3 hours, depending on the size of the group.

Reading Carved in Crystal is a journey in itself — each element here is just enough to evoke a powerful story that’s woven seamlessly by the group.
I found myself looking for some more traditional kind of stats or mechanics, thinking “how does that work without dice/stats/moves?” Indeed, what would happen if you didn’t rely on those things and simply trusted each other to explore a meaningful journey together? Taking those possibilities in is challenging and refreshing. What a beautiful, evocative game — I cant wait to play it!
if you have ever stayed up too late and had some wine and talked about wild ideas and metaphysics and your own history and weird spooky stories - so, basically, if you’re anyone who interacts with other people, Carved in Crystal is a game you can play, even if you’ve never played a role-playing game and you will have a good time.
